SEATTLE — A Seattle firefighter who was once honored for his bravery is facing assault charges for allegedly beating his estranged wife in front of their 10-year-old daughter.
Police told KOMO-TV 48-year-old Scott Soper knocked his estranged wife to the ground, dragged her to a carport and slammed her head against the cement until she lost consciousness.
The Shoreline resident and longtime Seattle firefighter was arrested this week following the Tuesday incident, after the woman called authorities.
Charging documents say deputies found her covered in blood and crying. He faces charges of second degree domestic violence assault, with an enhancement because their child was present.
In 2003, Soper was awarded the Seattle Fire Department’s Medal of Honor for his actions while trying to save a drowning man in Green Lake.
