CASPER, Wyo. — Records show that the Wyoming company whose pipeline spilled crude oil into the Yellowstone River in Montana and its sister company have had multiple incidents over the last decade.
Bridger Pipeline operates the Poplar Pipeline that broke recently near Glendive, Montana, spilling 30,000 gallons on Jan. 17.
Government records show Bridger recorded nine pipeline incidents between 2006 and 2014. Combined, they leaked nearly 11,000 gallons of crude.
Its sister company, Belle Fourche Pipeline, recorded 21 incidents over the same period, during which some 273,000 gallons of oil was spilled.
Both companies are operated from the same control room in Casper and are owned by the True family.
Vice President Tad True told the Casper Star-Tribune that the companies have made great efforts to improve pipeline safety in recent years.
