SPOKANE — A Spokane County teenager spent his 18th birthday in juvenile detention.
His crime? Swearing.
The Spokesman-Review reported that Superior Court Judge Sam Cozza halted proceedings Friday after a teenager visiting court to see his brother’s case got up and stormed out of the room while swearing.
The judge demanded that he return. The teen explained to the judge that he was “a little bit irritated” because some the allegations against his brother were false.
Cozza gave the teen a lecture on proper courtroom conduct. He also found him in contempt of court, and ordered him held in jail for five days.
Two sheriff’s deputies handcuffed the teen whose 18th birthday was Saturday.
