BETHEL, Alaska — Thirteen pieces of Yup’ik artwork have been stolen from the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corp. in Bethel.
KYUK reports an official with the corporation says the artwork was stolen last weekend from display cases in the administration building, which is located across the street from the main hospital.
Newton Chase, a vice president for the corporation, believes someone either stayed late Friday or got inside the building. The locks on display cases were picked, and only certain items were taken. The cases were then replaced to make it appear nothing was amiss.
The stolen items were considered smaller items, things that could fit inside someone’s coat.
The artwork was valued at about $11,000. The corporation is offering a $1,000 reward for an arrest or the return of the artwork.
