SEATTLE — The city of Seattle is working on a plan to reduce what it considers to be a clutter of bus shelters, benches, trash cans and information signs on downtown sidewalks.
The city would let a private company install new “street furniture” in return for allowing it to sell advertising space.
The Seattle Times reported that the makeover could begin in the spring of 2016 and eventually cover 300 blocks.
The City Council will have a say, but the Transportation Department wants companies to submit bids by March 20.
Department Director Scott Kubly said it would give sidewalks a cleaner, more architecturally unified look.
