EVERETT — Taylor Elliott, 18, is a senior at Sequoia High School, an alternative school in Everett.
Question: Sequoia is a beautiful and historic building many people pass by and don’t even know about. Did you know about Sequoia?
Answer: My brother came here a couple of years ago. He said he liked it, that it was really different from normal high schools. He liked the teachers and said they were really nice. It was more relaxed than a regular high school.
Q: I understand you hope to learn foreign languages and travel some day.
A: I like learning new languages. I took French for two years and I like learning about different cultures. I like how smooth the French language sounds.
Q: What are your plans for next year?
A: I’d like to go to a university, but if I don’t, I will go back to Everett Community College and transfer later.
Q: You went to Everett Community College last year as part of Running Start, but you are not doing that this year. Why is that?
A: It was really different. There is a lot more freedom in college than in high school. I kind of took advantage of that too much.
Q: What kind of job do you want after college?
A: I want to be an English teacher. I want to teach internationally. I have always wanted to travel. To have that as part of the job would be awesome.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I like to read and watch movies. I like to go on little adventures. I’ll go to Seattle and just explore. I like watching people, seeing what they do and where they are going. I really like the Seattle Library.
Q: What did your friends think when you transferred to another school for your senior year?
A: They were surprised at first. They didn’t understand why but they are happy because I’m doing really well here.
Q: Do you have a favorite movie?
A: My favorite movie is “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” I could relate to the main character. I’m not really into big crowds. I kind of do my own thing.
Q: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?
A: To really focus on their school work and not get distracted by irrelevant things.
Q: Have you been involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I used to play basketball and I was in the Bookworms Anonymous club at Everett High School for three years. We would talk about the books we were reading. I’m going to do track through Everett High again. I throw the discus. I’ll do it all four years.
Q: Do you have a favorite teacher or class?
A: My favorite teacher would probably be Robyn (McCleave) who teaches (college-level) AP English. I also really like April (Simon). She teaches creative writing.
