Prep boys basketball: Cascade 53, Kamiak 47

EVERETT — Cascade closed its regular season out with a Wesco 4A game against Kamiak Monday night.

The two teams will meet again soon — to open the 4A District 1 tournament on Thursday.

The Bruins took the lead in the second quarter and led most of the way as they defeated Kamiak 53-47 at Cascade High School.

The victory gives Cascade the No. 4 seed in the upcoming district tournament and a home game against No. 5-seeded Kamiak. Cascade coach Darrell McNeal said the Bruins were treating Monday night’s contest like a playoff game.

“We don’t have time to play around anymore. It’s playoff time,” McNeal said. “You’ve got to give it all you’ve got.”

Isaiah Gotell scored a game-high 16 points for Cascade, which also got 12 points from fellow sophomore Bennen Hancock as the Bruins avenged a 76-71 loss to Kamiak on Jan. 16.

Thursday’s game will serve as the tiebreaker in the season series.

“I think the last few games down the stretch of the season we’re really playing different,” McNeal said. “We’re starting to play harder and more aggressive. Whether we would have won or lost, we’re in the playoffs and … the big thing was coming out and playing harder and playing with composure and through some things.”

Junior Goleman Grayson led Kamiak (6-8, 10-10) with 13 points.
