To go with that box of chocolates, how about something frisky?
Like a puppy.
There are dogs of all passions to adopt at Shakaroo, and this year’s Everett Animal Shelter fundraising party falls on Valentine’s Day.
“It was happy accident,” said Dee Cordell, shelter operations coordinator. “The theme is all about the love.”
Reggae/rock band Nigel Mustafa and The Wild Snohomians, a roadhouse band, will perform at the family friendly event at Everett Performing Arts Center.
About 20 puppies and 20 adult dogs will strut their stuff on stage in the Pooch Parade.
The hounds will be “Valentined up a bit,” Cordell said. Red neckties for the gents. Bows on the ladies.
There’s a meet-and-greet at “Whine and Wine,” a cash bar, and plenty other chances to mingle with the four-legged sweeties.
Cordell said the stray dogs that came to the shelter recently were given love-themed names, such as Romeo and Clark Gable.
Attendees can choose their perfect mate but can’t take it home that night, though. The dogs will be available for adoption at 10 a.m. the following day.
“Last year, within the first two weeks, all the dogs were adopted,” Cordell said.
“We did a lot of cat adoptions.”
Doggonit, cats can’t come to the party.
