CLINTON — A 61-year-old Freeland man was killed and a 46-year-old Clinton woman seriously injured Saturday evening in a two-vehicle crash on Whidbey Island.
The woman, driving a 1988 Ford van, was headed south on Highway 525 at about 8:40 p.m.
Just past Coles Road, the van hit the guardrail on the right side of the road, then crossed back over the center line to strike a 1993 Honda Accord in the northbound lane driven by the Freeland man.
The Freeland man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Clinton woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and admitted into the intensive care unit. She was upgraded to stable condition on Sunday.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the man was not wearing a seat belt.
Police are investigating the woman for vehicular homicide. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
