The Lynndale Elementary School community will relocate this summer to the former Woodway Elementary — one year earlier than expected — so construction on their new school can start. The Edmonds School Board on Feb. 10 voted unanimously to make the change. The decision keeps $600,000 in the project budget by starting earlier.
The accelerated timeline means six tenants at the former Woodway campus will have to move out by June. Employees with one of those businesses, Mini Einstein Learning Center, told school board members earlier that the sudden switch could mean they go out of business.
Board members said the decision was difficult.
“The Lynndale kids have been waiting a long time and how many times have we had to repair the roof at their school this year alone? Our priority is to the Lynndale community and those kids,” Board President Diana White said.
