EVERETT — The YMCA of Snohomish County has received a $500,000 donation from the Everett Clinic and Everett Clinic Foundation to support the organization’s capital campaign.
The YMCA is embarking on a multimillion-dollar campaign to fund the replacement of its aging headquarters facility in downtown Everett.
Parts of the building at 2720 Rockefeller Ave. are nearly 100 years old, and the upper stories are mostly used for storage.*
“The clinic has supported multiple not-for-profit service organizations in Snohomish County, including the YMCA in the past,” said Dr. Harold Dash, board president of the Everett Clinic.
“But certainly we’ve not made a contribution of this amount in the past,” Dash said.
The clinic plans to contribute $350,000 over five years toward the YMCA’s campaign, while the foundation is giving $150,000.
In 2014, the clinic and the foundation together donated $742,098 to charities and other service organizations, clinic spokeswoman Michele Graves said.
The nonprofit Everett Clinic Foundation, which is supported by staff and physician donations, has donated more than $4 million since it was established in 1994.
Dash said that even if the clinic provides excellent medical care, the larger community’s well-being also is served by a wider network of social service organizations.
The YMCA has a variety of programs, from child care to adolescent programs, and even a cancer support group that Dash said he only learned about in the past couple of years.
“It’s really about community,” Dash said. “This will really be a positive investment for the people of Snohomish County.”
The YMCA is trying to raise about $10 million to begin the process of building a new Everett branch, either on the site of its existing facility or at a property yet to be purchased.
The project is estimated to cost up to $25 million, depending on location and details of the building plan. The YMCA would make up the difference in cost with a combination of its own resources and low-interest borrowing.
The YMCA also plans to break ground this summer on a new $18 million facility in Stanwood to serve north Snohomish County.
