SEATTLE — The officer in the car with Timothy Brenton the night the Seattle police officer was killed testified in tears Wednesday at the aggravated murder trial of Christopher Monfort.
Officer Britt Kelly, whose last name at the time was Sweeney, said she saw a bright muzzle flash, heard a loud noise and smelled gunpowder as bullets hit Brenton in the head on Halloween night in 2009.
KCPQ reports Kelly testified she felt she was being hunted as she returned fire and called for help. She didn’t realize right away that she had been grazed by the gunfire.
Monfort has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He could be sentenced to death if convicted.
Kelly was a rookie officer being trained by Brenton at the time of the ambush.
