Prep girls basketball: King’s 70, Seattle Academy 26

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – Daylee Hanson scored 16 points and Savanna Hanson, her older sister, added 10 as King’s routed Seattle Academy 70-26 in the 1A District 1/2 championship Saturday night at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Both teams had already qualified for next week’s regional round of the state tournament and will find out their next opponents after a draw at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Sunday night.

King’s (20-3 overall) jumped out to an early lead and continued to play well after halftime, outscoring the Cardinals 32-11 in the second half.

Ashley Osborn added 10 points for King’s (20-3 overall).

“We picked up the intensity as the game went along,” said King’s head coach Dan Taylor. “Our bench came off and we don’t miss a beat. We bring the same intensity and the same energy.”

The Knights completed a sweep at the 1A Bi-District tournament after the boys team defeated Seattle Academy 48-31 prior to the girls’ game. The two King’s teams have come together after the boys team was involved in a scary accident last Saturday night that saw its bus flip over.

“It made us forget about basketball for awhile, if that makes any sense,” Taylor said. “It was a great opportunity for us to bond with the boys. It was a great opportunity for us to get a life check – to just remind ourselves what life’s all about and get our priorities straight. … I don’t think it was a distraction at all. I think it was one of those times of adversity that makes you grow.”
