Marshawn Lynch’s agent denies report of new deal with Seahawks

The Marshawn Lynch offseason drama was over, then quickly it wasn’t.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported Saturday evening that a new deal was “in place” between Lynch at the Seahawks to give him a raise in 2015 and extend his contract through 2016.

Lynch’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, quickly denied the report, however, saying in a text message that it was “not true.” And it sounds like this wasn’t just the case of a formality of the deal being agree upon but not final, because Hendrickson followed up with “No deal. Not true,” and said he had “no idea” where it came from. Hendrickson also Tweeted out a denial of the report, saying “contrary to reports, there is no Marshawn Lynch deal.”

Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll have both made it clear that they want Lynch back in 2015, and plan to give him a raise over the $7 million he is currently owed if he does return, but the Seahawks are also aware that Lynch could decide to retire this offseason.

While Lynch very well may end up signing a new deal with the Seahawks sometime soon—that scenario seems like the most likely one at this point—for now, not much has changed. The Seahawks want Lynch back, they’re willing to give him a raise, but for now he hasn’t made a decision.
