EVERETT — A Bothell man convicted of murdering his estranged wife in 2013 is demanding new lawyers.
A judge on Friday agreed to delay sentencing Alan Smith until next month to give him time to try to persuade another judge to give him new attorneys.
Smith, 39, claims his lawyers botched his defense, and he doesn’t have faith that they can adequately represent him anymore. He was scheduled to be sentenced Monday.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Linda Krese agreed that another judge should hear Smith’s motion. That hearing has not been scheduled yet.
Krese convicted Smith of first-degree murder after a three week bench trial. She concluded that the former Boeing engineer beat, stabbed and drowned his wife, Susann Smith.
