WEST LINN, Ore. — The Washington State Patrol says a large after-market bumper installed on a Jeep contributed to the deaths of two teens in a crash Saturday in the Columbia River Gorge.
Washington State Patrol Lt. Will Finn told The Oregonian that the bumper “intruded through the trunk and into the rear of the passenger compartment.”
The crash killed West Linn High School juniors Cooper Hill and Antonio Caballero. They were among eight students headed to a hike at Dog Mountain on the Washington side of the gorge. They were in the back seat of a Honda that was rear-ended on Highway 14.
Hundreds attended a vigil for the two Sunday night vigil on the West Linn High School football field.
The driver of the Jeep was cited for negligent driving.
