CARNATION — Sheriff’s deputies in King County are investigating after more than 30 parrots were taken from a rescue operation in Carnation, Washington.
Bob Dawson has been running the Macaw Rescue &Sanctuary for about 12 years. He says it’s home to more than 800 parrots, many of them pets that were given up so they could live among other birds in large cages.
KIRO-TV reported that Dawson thinks the rescue was targeted last weekend by thieves who may want to sell the parrots online. The thieves seemed to focus on certain types. In one cage, most of the blue parrots were stolen while the green ones were left.
Volunteers are checking online listings to see if someone is trying to sell the birds.
None of the cages had locks and Dawson did not have surveillance cameras. He says that will change.
Dawson is hoping someone will return the birds to any bird sanctuary, humane society or rescue.
