Regarding the letter, “Courthouse parking isn’t only issue for city”: Every city in Snohomish County must comply with the mandate of the Washington Growth Management Act. One element is preserving a healthy environment, now and in the future of each city. This objective can only be accomplished by correct planning by the city government as defined by the Growth Management Act, reviewed and amended every year. Transportation departments of cities do this. Includes the parks, traffic and parking lots.
It was recommended that cities plan their housing, businesses and health care buildings at a walking distance to avoid driving cars. The idea is to discourage people to drive and use buses and bicycles, similar to what the mayor of Seattle advocates. He removed many parking lots and redesigned and rerouted traffic to encourage bicycle use.
Perhaps this options will answer the problems by Everett Community College.
