A bill to ratchet up the state’s minimum wage to $12 an hour is scheduled to be voted on by the state House of Representatives Tuesday.
Officials with the House Democratic caucus say House Bill 1355 will be brought to the floor in the afternoon.
HB 1355 would increase the minimum wage from the current rate of $9.47 per hour to $12 per hour over the course of four years. The first hike would come in 2016. Rep. Jessyn Farrell, D-Seattle, is the prime sponsor and a vast majority of the chamber’s Democrats have signed on as co-sponsors.
House Speaker Frank Chopp, D-Seattle, said last week that this bill would be voted on early in the week.
“It’s not only the right thing to go, the publicly strongly supports it,” he said.
