OLYMPIA — A Steilacoom store owner who tried to claim a $1,000 winning lottery ticket that wasn’t hers pleaded guilty Monday to fraud.
Veva Maddox was sentenced in Thurston County Superior Court to 30 days of electronic home monitoring.
The Olympian reported that the 62-year-old was arrested in December as part of an undercover compliance check by the Washington State Lottery at Steilacoom Marine Services.
Maddox told the undercover official the ticket was worth only $3 and later tried to claim the $1,000 prize for herself.
