SAN FRANCISCO — California senior Reshanda Gray has been named Pac-12 Player of the Year in a vote by the league’s coaches.
Gray becomes Cal’s second player to be named Player of the Year, joining Devanei Hampton in 2006-07. The Pac-12 announced its annual honors Tuesday.
Ruth Hamblin of Pac-12 champion Oregon State earned Defensive Player of the Year and her coach, Scott Rueck, was voted Coach of the Year by his colleagues.
UCLA’s Jordin Canada was Freshman of the Year. Gray’s teammate and close friend, point guard Brittany Boyd, joined her on the 15-player All-Pac-12 team, while Stanford was represented by Amber Orrange and Lili Thompson.
Gray averaged 18.1 points and 7.2 rebounds. She ranked eighth in the country in field-goal percentage at a Pac-12 best .576.
The others honored were: Jillian Alleyne, Oregon; Promise Amukamara, Arizona State; Sophie Brunner, Arizona State; Jazmine Davis, Washington; Nirra Fields, UCLA; Lia Galdeira, Washington State; Hamblin, Oregon State; Kelsey Plum, Washington; Alexyz Vaioletama, USC; Jamie Weisner, Oregon State; Sydney Wiese, Oregon State.
The Pac-12 women’s tournament begins Thursday in Seattle.
