When/Where: 9 p.m., Thursday, SunDome in Yakima
Records: La Salle 21-3, King’s 22-2
AP Rankings: La Salle (No. 5); King’s (No. 2).
How they got to Yakima: La Salle edged Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 51-50 in a 1A regional at Cheney High School. King’s had little difficulty in its regional matchup, defeating Charles Wright Academy 60-35.
Players to watch: La Salle—Conner Andringa, Sr., G; Tresten Garza, Sr., G; Austin Gasseling, Sr., F; Austin Ide, Jr., F. King’s—Corey Kispert, So., G/F; Noah Bundrant, Sr., G; Brett Jones, Sr., F; Calvin Kispert, Sr., F.
Breakdown: La Salle finished second in the 1A South-Central West League behind Zillah, the top-ranked 1A team in the state. Garza and Andringa both average over 10 points a game for the Lightning.
King’s is led by Corey Kispert, a sophomore averaging almost 19 points per game. Kispert can do it all: rebound, defend and shoot from long range. His older brother, Calvin, provides a strong post presence and Bundrant, who averages 11.6 points per game, gives the Knights a third scoring option.
King’s was involved in a scary bus accident that saw its vehicle roll on its side, on the way back from a 1A district playoff game on Feb. 14. Amazingly, just two King’s players missed the next game, and all were available for last week’s regional against Charles Wright.
