The Arlington girls basketball team is becoming a regular at the Tacoma Dome.
For the third consecutive season, the Eagles reached the state quarterfinals in Tacoma. Arlington participated in the past two Class 4A tournaments, finishing second in 2013. Arlington is now a 3A school, but will still wrap up its season in Tacoma.
The familiarity with the state tournament, with everything from the team hotel to where they eat, should help the Eagles, Arlington coach Joe Marsh said.
“I wouldn’t call it a routine, but this is our third year now. We know where we’re staying. The girls have been here before,” Marsh said. “It is nice in that sense. We’ve been there before. It’s not all brand new. I think that’s a plus for us.”
The Eagles (22-3) have won 14 of their past 15 games. Their two regular-season losses came by a combined five points, and their third, a 63-55 loss to Glacier Peak in the 3A District 1 tournament, was a close game throughout. Arlington needed some late-game heroics in its district third-place game, with a late 3-pointer by Jessica Ludwig sending the contest against Edmonds-Woodway to overtime, with the Eagles eventually prevailing 57-52.
As a reward, Arlington got a regional matchup against Shadle Park in Spokane. The Eagles showed no ill effects of traveling across the state, defeating the Highlanders 52-35 to return to the Tacoma Dome.
