Regarding the article, “Marysville Pilchuck cafeteria where shootings occurred won’t reopen”: It was a terrible thing that happened in the Marysville high school cafeteria. It is worse to teach our children they don’t have to face their fears. If you tear down a building where something bad happened just so they don’t have to face re-entering that space, what are you teaching them? How will they face the other problems that are sure to come their way in life? It is our job as parents/adults to teach our children how to be adults. Being an adult is hard work. Teaching children to be adults is even harder. I can imagine some people would be afraid to re-enter the cafeteria where this terrible event occurred, but we can’t remove everything from the world that scares our children. The cafeteria is just a building, nothing more, nothing less.
If someone is have trouble facing their fear, have a counselor there to help. Let’s not teach our children to run away in fear, let’s teach them to overcome their fears. Let’s save our children and save the cafeteria.
