MACHIAS — Machias Elementary School was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after a neighbor reported finding a naked man hiding nearby.
Police were called around 9:15 a.m. to the 16400 block of 14th Street NE. Deputies and dogs searched the area but were unable to find the man.
The school was locked down as a precaution and roads were closed while deputies searched for the naked man.
The suspect is believed to be Christopher Alan Zellner, a convicted sex offender, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said. The 29-year-old is out of compliance with his registration requirements.
Deputies suspect that Zellner left the area in a stolen 1998 Dodge Caravan. Police askl anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 911.
