My Edmonds News reported on Thursday that Meadowdale head football coach Mike Don and boys basketball head coach Andy Streit have both resigned. The resignations were confirmed by Meadowdale athletic director Liz Marriott.
Streit plans to take a break from the sidelines, while Don is leaving Meadowdale to take a teaching and head coaching position at Eastmont High School in East Wenatchee.
Streit has been the Mavericks’ head basketball coach for the past four seasons and has spent the last 15 years in coaching.
“It was a very difficult decision for me to make,” Streit said. “But after much reflection, I’ve decided that I’d like to take some time away from coaching to both refuel my tank and enjoy some of my other interests, as well as reflect on all that I’ve learned coaching high-school basketball the last 15 years, 13 of those at Meadowdale.”
Don has coached the Mavericks’ football team for the past two seasons after taking over for former head coach Mark Stewart, who recently accepted the head coaching position at Mariner High School. Don led the Mavericks to the state playoffs in each of his two seasons as head coach, including a trip to the 3A state quarterfinals in 2013.
Don was previously the head coach at Lynnwood and at Brewster High School before accepting the job with the Mavericks in June of 2013.
“He is relocating to be near family and we are very excited for him and wish him all the best,” Marriott said.
