I search for words to express the depth of disgust I feel toward the Senate Republicans’ so-called “open letter” to Iran and come up short. The intentional sabotage of the president’s efforts to work with our allies to reduce the risk of a nuclear Iran is a sophomoric prank that reeks of stupidity and hubris. A virtual mooning of the president. That Sens. McConnell and McCain, who should have some sense of the duties of decorum and statesmanship that accompany election to high office, have chosen to join the list of gormless poltroons signing the letter is disappointing.
For years I have longed for a sensible Republican politician to support in order to validate my credentials as an independent. Perhaps there is one among the seven Republican senators who refused to sign this pernicious, near-treasonous document.
