PEORIA, Ariz. — Chris Taylor got three hits and Mike Zunino had a two-run single Friday as the Seattle Mariners beat the Milwaukee Brewers 10-5.
J.A. Happ, slated for the Seattle starting rotation, blanked the Brewers for three innings, allowing a hit and striking out two.
“Happ threw the ball extremely well. Pitched in the zone, his secondary stuff was good. It was a good outing for him,” Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said.
Taylor, competing to be the club’s everyday shortstop, hit a triple and raised his spring training average to .421. His eight hits and 16 total bases lead the Mariners so far in spring training.
Juan Centeno homered for the Brewers.
