Boys Basketball

Player of the Year: Michael Painter, G, Sr., Marysville Pilchuck

First team

Collin Kane, C, Sr., Snohomish

Kane averaged 18.4 points and 10.4 rebounds for the Panthers, who finished second in the Wesco 4A during the regular season.

Corey Kispert, G/F, So., King’s

Kispert averaged 18.6 points per game this season for the Knights and helped them win the 1A state championship with a 45-40 victory over Lynden Christian in the championship game.

Karsten Chaplik, W, Sr., Stanwood

Chaplik averaged 16.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists for the Spartans this season. He helped lead Stanwood to a Wesco 3A North regular-season championship and a berth in the state-regional round, where the Spartans were knocked out by Kennedy Catholic.

Michael Painter, G, Sr., Marysville Pilchuck

Painter averaged 16 points, six rebounds and four assists per game for the Tomahawks, who made the state tournament in Tacoma just two years removed from a 1-19 season.

Drew Magaoay, G, Jr., Shorecrest

Magaoay has emerged as one of the top point guards in the state. He averaged 20 points per game this season, while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range and 55 percent from inside the 3-point line. He led the Scots to a second-place finish in the Wesco 3A/2A South and was named the league’s player of the year.

Coach of the Year: Bary Gould, Marysville Pilchuck

Just two years after a 1-19 season, Gould led the Tomahawks to a second-place finish in the Wesco 3A North in the regular season. The Tomahawks emerged from the 3A District 1 tournament as the No. 3 seed and went on to beat Kennewick in a state regional game to advance to the Tacoma Dome for the state tournament as one of the top eight 3A teams in the state. The Tomahawks went 0-2 in Tacoma, but took Eastside Catholic, which eventually took third place in the tournament, down to the wire in the quarterfinals.

Brady Southard, F, Sr., Glacier Peak

Yegor Gorbenko, F., Sr., Jackson

Rhen Shore, G/F, Sr., Monroe
