MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Three Mountlake Terrace pitchers combined to allow just four hits as the Hawks defeated Kamiak 7-1 on Tuesday in a non-conference game. Mountlake Terrace allowed just one run in the top of seventh and scored in five of six innings as the Hawks opened their season with a win.
“We threw a lot strikes and we played good defense behind our pitchers, as well,” Mountlake Terrace head coach Andrew Watters said. “The relievers came in and did a good job. The pitching and defense was really good today. That was definitely the key to the game for us.”
The Hawks broke the game open with a three-run fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Jared Maxfield led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by Nolan Takeya. Adam Lorraine and Drew Serres added RBI singles in the inning.
Serres finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, including a triple in the third inning. Serres scored on the play after the throw to third went out of play.
“The triple really got us going early in the game,” Watters said. “Good start for Drew and a great day for him.”
Andrew Pitts finished 2-for-3 to lead the Knights (0-2).
