SEATTLE — Seattle’s other tunnel boring machine — the one working to create a transit tunnel to the University of Washington campus — has completed its first big milestone.
The boring machine completed a 1.5 mile segment of a 4.3-mile tunnel that will allow light rail trains to go from Northgate Mall to the University of Washington starting in 2021.
The tunnel is one of six being mined as part of the Northgate light rail expansion. The machine started it work last year in July.
