ARLINGTON — For the second time in three months, a pet wallaby has been reported missing here.
Keri Rickard’s two-year-old male wallaby, Taz, disappeared from her backyard Monday. She suspects something startled him enough to jump the six-foot fence that surrounds her property.
He was last seen heading south near Arlington High School, pursued by dogs. He’s less than three feet tall, weighs about 35 pounds and has a gray-brown coat with a white belly, Rickard said.
Another wallaby, Bella, went missing in January along Highway 530 northeast of town. The search for Bella was called off in February. She hasn’t been found.
Taz does not have any ties to Bella or the Outback Kangaroo Farm in Arlington, Rickard said. She got him as a baby from Fall City Wallaby Ranch. He’s a docile pet that usually stays in the backyard and eats the grass.
Rickard asks that people in Arlington, especially around the high school, keep an eye out in their yards. Taz may be grazing quietly somewhere and no one would notice without looking closely.
If Taz is spotted, people shouldn’t chase him, Rickard said. He’s skittish and will run. Instead, she requests that anyone who sees Taz call her at 425-760-3634.
“He’s a grazer,” she said. “If he’s just sitting in someone’s yard eating, leave him alone and call us and we’ll come get him. If they scare him, he could run again.”
