PUYALLUP — A man was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Emerald Queen Casino early Saturday.
The News Tribune reported that the victim was shot at about 12:45 a.m. after confronting the shooter. Puyallup Tribal spokesman John Weymer says the shooter’s car was blocking the victim from leaving. The casino is on tribal land.
The FBI in Seattle released a statement saying the suspected shooter, Jay Schlenker, was arrested by Oregon State Police at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday as he drove on I-5 near Salem. They also recovered a weapon.
Weymer says the shooter had earlier confronted another couple with a gun and then drove to the side of the lot and fired into the air. Next, he parked behind the victim’s car and refused to move. He shot the driver and drove away.
