I feel compelled to respond to the sarcastic letter to the editor by Mr. Christenson on Monday.
1. Most teachers spend much of their own time preparing lessons, evaluating student work and developing innovative activities to enhance student learning.
2. Most teachers spend a great deal of their own money buying supplies and material for their classroom.
3. The teachers union promotes and encourages innovation, and creativity in the classroom. The teachers union opposes anything that would limit or restrict the innovation and creativity of the classroom teacher.
I would also like to congratulate Mr. Brown on his outstanding teaching of his students in the Monroe School District. Washington is filled with outstanding teachers like Mr. Brown, including the fourth-grade teacher who will inherit his students next year.
Finally I would like to thank all the outstanding teachers that gave of themselves so selflessly in time, money and energy, to teach my children and my grandchildren.
