Where to shop locally to keep your pet happy

Spring is upon us, and you’re most likely going to be spending more and more time outside with your furry friend playing fetch and rewarding them for their (hopefully) good behavior. So when you have an urge to surprise your furry friend with a new toy or a treat, where do you usually go? Here are some pet store ideas from around Snohomish County that you can visit to keep your pet happy and your shopping local!

Ash Way Pet Supply: This unique pet store, open seven days a week, is located in Lynnwood. Ash Way opened in 2007, and offers a respectable list of natural dry, raw and canned dog and cat foods. By their own admission, they sell higher quality foods, which results in a costlier trip to their store than you may have to your regular grocery store. However, this balances out with their frequent buyer program, as well as the costs you save on visits to the vet due to your pet’s healthy, balanced diet. Ash Way also offers grooming packages for dogs and cats, including nail “pawlish” and an enviable rainforest facial scrub.

Mud Bay: Originating in Olympia in 1988, Mud Bay has become a staple pet store in the Puget Sound region. Although Mud Bay has grown to more than 30 locations in western Washington and several in Oregon since their start, the company still manages to be owned and operated by family and friends. Mud Bay takes pride in the education they provide their staff, focusing on several areas including dog and cat physiology, nutrition and behavior, which in turn allows the staff to better guide customers toward a healthy food choice for their pets. On top of their long list of food options, Mud Bay also hosts adoption events regularly at various locations.

The Northwest Organization for Animal Help Center: The N.O.A.H. Center is a great find in Snohomish County. This facility, located in Stanwood, gives animals a second chance, while also reducing the pet overpopulation problem through providing free/low-cost surgeries to pet owners who qualify. The N.O.A.H. Center has a fully stocked retail store on-site, allowing pet-owners instant access to pet supplies, while also contributing to funds going toward the Center’s programs. The dogs and cats available for adoption are treated like royalty while they wait to find their forever homes, whether the cats are lounging in the cat colony, or the dogs are relaxing in the bar-less dog suites. You can check out the N.O.A.H. Kittycam to pass the time.

Paddywack: Just looking at the list of nutritional food and treats that Paddywack has to offer is exhausting, in a good way. This Mill Creek store ensures that customers won’t be finding any by-products, chemical preservatives or artificial colors in their pet’s food and supplements. Does Paddywack not have the type of food you’re looking for? No problem. They will be happy to add your preference to their order cycle. Paddywack doesn’t just stop with the wholesome food choices. They also offer a steady stream of toys and supplies that will be sure to keep pets, and owners alike, happy. Paddywack also supports local shelters and animal rescue organizations. In the meantime, check out some of the cats they have available for adoption.
