SEATTLE — The contractor building the 520 bridge on Lake Washington has started work again after a crane accident that smashed a bus. But Flatiron Construction has made changes to ensure their materials will no longer threaten traffic.
KOMO-TV reports that the contractor will now be unloading trucks on a separate offramp away from traffic.
Eight people were injured on March 17 when a large pipe fell from a crane and hit a bus and highway sign.
State Transportation spokesman Ian Sterling says the contractor had been stopping delivery trucks in the slow lane so cranes could reach over and unload the pilings. But now they have a separate offramp for the delivery trucks so the unloading will be away from traffic lanes.
