The WHL announced its all-star teams and awards finalists Wednesday, and the U.S. Division-champion Everett Silvertips were shut out.
The Western Conference first-team all-stars were forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand (Portland), Cole Ully (Kamloops) and Rourke Chartier (Kelowna); defensemen Shea Theodore (Seattle) and Madison Bowey (Kelowna); and goaltender Taran Kozun (Seattle). The second team consisted of forwards Nic Petan (Portland), Nick Merkley (Kelowna) and Adam Helewka (Spokane); defensemen Joe Hicketts (Victoria) and Josh Morrissey (Kelowna); and goaltender Eric Comrie (Tri-City).
The finalists for most of the league’s year-end awards were also announced, with one nominee from each of the Eastern and Western conferences. The nominees were: Rookie of the Year, Nolan Patrick (Brandon) and Kailer Yamamoto (Spokane); Goaltender of the Year, Tristan Jarry (Edmonton) and Taran Kozun (Seattle); Defenseman of the Year, Ivan Provorov (Brandon) and Shea Theodore (Seattle); Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year, Peter Quenneville (Brandon) and Rourke Chartier (Kelowna); Scholastic Player of the Year, Nick McBride (Prince Albert) and Joe Gatenby (Kelowna); Coach of the Year, John Paddock (Regina) and Dan Lambert (Kelowna); Executive of the year, Kelly McCrimmon (Brandon) and Bruce Hamilton (Kelowna).
The nominees for the Player of the Year will be announced at a later date.
