In response to the letter, “Time to move on to other coverage”: My purpose here is not to dissuade the gentleman of his thinking, but simply to offer observations which led me to a different conclusion. 1) Follow-up reporting on the first year anniversary of such a momentous event was absolutely appropriate. 2) There should be skepticism about the writer being better qualified than The Herald to determine just what amount of coverage was sufficient. 3) It’s unlikely that there is local news of more importance which is going unreported because of attention being focused on Oso. 4) It seems reasonable to suggest that the articles, in addition to being of interest to many of us, may afford some potential for additional healing for those who lost loved ones, friends and homes. If so, then a case might be made that, despite the perceived hardship the coverage has inflicted on people who, like Mr. Martz, think only of themselves, it still will have served the greater good. The Herald deserves only applause for commemorating the Oso tragedy and doing it well. Of course, this is only an opinion and I’m sometimes wrong.
