Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin took to Twitter early Wednesday morning to break some somber news.

Later, of course, he made it known that his “arrest” was actually an April Fools’ Day joke.

And while some found it funny, plenty of others did not. No really, people were not pleased. And that reaction is understandable; DUIs aren’t in the least bit funny. Then again, Irvin is getting slammed by some as if he had actually committed a crime, not just made a joke that was in poor taste.
Either way, Irvin later apologized and wisely announced his intention to stay off of Twitter for the day.

Irvin’s April Fools’ Day joke can serve as a good reminder of two things: 1. Just about anything you see on social media today should be taken with a huge grain of salt, and 2. think before you Tweet (this applies every day).
