FARGO, N.D. — U.S. Marshals have caught a fugitive federal prisoner and a corrections officer they say helped him escape a North Dakota jail.
The U.S. Marshals Service says Wesley Brown III, 35, and Rachel Chepulis, 26, were captured Wednesday by authorities in North Bend, Oregon.
Brown escaped from the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center in Devils Lake on March 13. He was awaiting sentencing after he had pleaded guilty to charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and escape.
Marshals say Chepulis helped Brown escape last month. They issued a federal warrant for her arrest last month, charging her with three crimes, including instigating or assisting an escape and concealing person from arrest.
Authorities say they tracked the pair to Oregon and captured them at a Bi-Mart store.
