PORT ORCHARD — The Kitsap County prosecutor’s office says two Port Orchard officers were justified in using deadly force when they shot and killed a 36-year-old man last June.
The office said Wednesday that Prosecutor Tina Robinson cleared Officers Matthew Bell and Nathan Lynch of wrongdoing after reviewing the case.
Officers were attempting to arrest Thomas Rogers on felony warrants when he was shot by police behind a strip mall on June 19, 2014.
The prosecutor’s office says that Rogers threatened the officers with a knife, even using it to cut Lynch.
Rogers was being sought by authorities in Tulsa County, Oklahoma, on an outstanding warrant for child molestation. He was also wanted for a probation violation in Kitsap County. Two officers were injured in the encounter.
