AMES, Iowa — University of Washington assistant men’s basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger is returning to Iowa State after two seasons in Seattle.
The Cyclones announced Wednesday that Otzelberger, who coached in Ames from 2006-13, will fill the void left when Matt Abdelmassih joined Chris Mullin’s staff at St. John’s.
Otzelberger first served under Greg McDermott at Iowa State and stayed on when current coach Fred Hoiberg was hired in 2010.
Otzelberger likely will serve as Iowa State’s top recruiter. He helped bring in players such as Craig Brackins, Diante Garrett and Melvin Ejim during his first stint with the Cyclones.
Otzelberger is married to former Iowa State point guard Alison Lacey.
