SEATTLE — Expedia, Inc. is moving its corporate headquarters from Bellevue to Seattle.
The online travel company announced the move at a news conference with Seattle Mayor Ed Murray on Thursday.
Company officials said it plans to buy a 40-acre waterfront campus from Amgen and close on the purchase in the second quarter of this year.
Expedia officials said it was a tough decision to leave Bellevue but they couldn’t pass up on the opportunity for a site on Elliott Bay. The company’s headquarters has 3,000 employees.
Expedia began in 1996 and has more than 10,000 employees worldwide. Its brands include Hotels.com and Hotwire.com.
