Here’s the schedule for the second-round playoff series between Everett and Portland:
Game 1: Portland at Everett, Friday, 7:35 p.m.
Game 2: Portland at Everett, Saturday, 7:05 p.m.
Game 3: Everett at Portland, Thursday, April 16, 7 p.m.
Game 4: Everett at Portland, Friday, April 17, 7 p.m.
Game 5 (if necessary): Portland at Everett, Sunday, April 19, 4:05 p.m.
Game 6 (if necessary): Everett at Portland, Tuesday, April 21, 7 p.m.
Game 7 (if necessary): Portland at Everett, Wednesday, April 22, 7:05 p.m.
Games 3 and 4 will be at Memorial Coliseum in Portland, while it’s still to be determined whether Game 6 will be at Memorial Coliseum or the Moda Center.
This schedule is unusual to say the least. Games 2 and 3 are five days apart. That’s an eternity. I can’t remember Everett ever being a part of a series with that kind of a gap between games. The lengthy layoff could cancel out any momentum gained from the first two games.
If the series goes the distance, it finishes with a stretch of five games in seven days. That’s brutal. And whoever wins Game 7 would likely have just one day off before having to start the next series. If the conference championship opponent ends up being Kelowna as expected, then that lone off day would be spent on the bus.
One other piece of news today as the NHL Central Scouting Service released its final rankings for the 2015 NHL draft. Everett once again had three players listed, all defensemen.
Noah Juulsen saw a nice bump in his ranking. He went from being 38th among North American Skaters in January to being 22nd in the final rankings. That puts Juulsen on the fringes of the first round.
Tristen Pfeifer also moved up, moving from 179th to 135th. Kevin Davis dropped a bit, going from 137th to 163rd. Both Pfeifer and Davis remain in the range where they’re on the bubble for being selected.
