VANCOUVER — U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell will be in Vancouver on Wednesday to talk about oil train safety with government and fire officials.
Cantwell, along with Sen. Patty Murray and others, has proposed legislation to require the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to create new safety regulations for transporting oil by train.
The legislation would stop the use of older tank cars that are more likely to catch fire during a derailment. It would also set aside money for first responder training, equipment and emergency preparedness.
