ARLINGTON — An Arlington police sergeant’s patrol vehicle was struck Friday night by a car that ran a red light.
Investigators said the driver fled the scene of the crash. Witnesses helped the police sergeant get out of his wrecked SUV. He was trapped because the vehicle’s side airbags had deployed during the crash, Arlington spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.
He was taken to Cascade Valley Hospital for an evaluation and released a couple of hours later.
The crash happened just before 11 p.m.
Banfield said the officer was southbound on Smokey Point Boulevard and crossing the intersection at 172nd Street NE. The other driver was eastbound and ran a red light. The suspect hit the passenger side of the SUV, causing the police vehicle to spin through the intersection.
The sergeant, a 27-year veteran of the department, reported the crash to dispatchers. Investigators did not release any details about the vehicle or driver.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were assisting Arlington police officers with the investigation.
