EDMONDS — A street repaving is planned this summer on 220th Street SW, and the city would like to hear from the public about the design.
A public meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Edmonds Church, 8224 220th St. SW.
The $780,000 project includes repaving 220th Street between 84th and 76th avenues. There’s also a proposal to add bike lanes on 220th Street, said Ed Sibrel, the city’s capital projects manager.
“Since this is a residential area, we just want to let folks know what’s going on in their immediate future and explain some of the alternatives we’re exploring,” he said.
The proposal to add bike lanes to the project is part of the city’s examination of putting bike lanes on other thoroughfares to allow commuting opportunities for the public, he said.
The half-mile repaving project paid by a federal grant. The last time 220th Street was repaved was in the 1990s. It currently has cracks and rutting.
The project is expected to begin this summer. The repaving is expected to take about 10 days. “The longest part of the project is upgrading of the pedestrian curb ramps,” he said.
Although part of the street will be shut down during the project, there will be access for residents, businesses and commuters. “We’ll probably overlay one side at a time,” Sibrel said.
