Alex Stamey of Mill Creek has been named to the 12-person team that will represent the Washington State Golf Association at the 10th annual PNGA Cup on May 12-14 at Columbia Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon.
The event brings together teams from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia. Each team is made up of eight men — four from the mid-amateur division (25 and older), two from the master division (40 and older) and two from the senior division (55 and older) — and two women each from the mid-amateur and senior (50 and older) divisions.
Stamey was one of the two men selected by the WSGA in the master division. He was picked along with Nate Hair of Edwall, the 2014 PNGA Men’s Master Amateur champion.
Stamey is a five-time Snohomish County Amateur champion. He finished eighth in stroke play at the 2014 PNGA Men’s Master Amateur.
Other members of the WSGA team include:
Men— Sean Parker of Seattle (mid-amateur), Mike Haack of Bellevue (mid-amateur), Reid Hatley of Hayden Lake, Idaho (mid-amateur), Tyler Daniels of Walla Walla (mid-amateur), Tom Brandes of Bellevue (senior) and Tom Hale of Lakewood (senior).
Women—Leslie Folsom of Tukwila (mid-amateur), Amanda Jacobs of Seattle (mid-amateur), Denise Kieffer of University Place (senior) and Gretchen Klein of Hoquiam (senior).
The PNGA Cup uses a Ryder Cup-style format, with four-ball and foursome matches on the first day, and singles matches on the second and final day.
British Columbia is the two-time defending champion.
