The two parking lots at the Big Four Ice Caves will be closed to the public from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 18, for emergency training. The trail will also be closed.
The ice caves are on the Mountain Loop Highway, east of Granite Falls.
A number of agencies will be practicing how to coordinate an emergency response in a remote area. They will work on ways to communicate well with limited radio coverage and no cell service. They will also practice helicopter rescues and other skills.
The agencies involved include Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Snohomish County Fire District 26, Robe Valley Fire District 23, Getchell Fire District 22, Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue, Airlift Northwest, SnoCom911, and the Snohomish County Emergency Radio System.
