TACOMA — A Tacoma man was sentenced to eight years in prison for hitting and killing a glass delivery man with his vehicle last year.
Jason Raynaldo Tamayo pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in March. Tamayo was driving impaired in May 2014 when he was speeding, ran a stop sign, swerved into oncoming lanes and then hit Mark Nigh.
Nigh and his son had just delivered glass to an apartment building and was standing at the back of his truck when Tamayo struck him. The impact severed Nigh’s legs. He was taken to the hospital but died two days later.
At his sentencing on Friday, the judge reminded Tamayo that Nigh’s son watched him die. She said there comes a point in life when a person must take responsibility for his actions.
